YWCA Mural

Since the onset of the pandemic, we’ve been partnering with the Queens YWCA to help pack and distribute food to the elderly and vulnerable in our community. We’ve gotten to know so many of the team members there and are moved by their love for their neighbors and the ways they continually look to serve them and meet their needs both physical and emotional.

Sometime last year, their director had mentioned how they were hoping to find a way to refresh the exterior with a mural of some sort - something that would be bright and eye-catching for passersby to pique their curiosity and to lift the mood of regular visitors whom they already served. We commissioned artist Andrea Ng to design and oversee this mural, and began work in November of 2020. On Saturday, June 19th, 2021, we were able to present the final mural. Alongside this dedication ceremony, we also distributed personal alarms and hand sanitizers to our neighbors to help protect them against the rise in hate crimes against Asians that has been sweeping across our city and our country.

Many thanks to Andrea Ng and to our multitude of volunteers who stopped by on Saturdays to help complete the mural. If you’re driving by Parsons Boulevard, you can’t miss it!
